Women’s Conference In Peru
I had the opportunity to travel to Peru thanks to an invitation from two pastors, Cristina and Marcos Vasquez. They were inspired by our stories at an event in Jalisco,
and another in Huatulco.
They invited us to speak at their church in front of women in Peru. The church, “Generación de Campeones” in Lima, hosted the event with the theme “Inspiration, Innovation, and Influence.”
Upon arriving in Lima, we were warmly greeted by a welcoming committee that cared for our needs throughout the trip. Our group consisted of Jeannette Mendez, Liz Sandoval, director of Maj Mujeres and pastor in Guadalajara, and myself. We were picked up at 7:00 AM, and were overwhelmed by the hospitality and honor they bestowed upon us.
The event itself was incredibly inspiring. More than 300 women attended, and we were tasked with leading a class. I led the class on innovation, where I encouraged women to think about their future, to innovate in their lives, and to inspire others. Many of these women, primarily homemakers, needed to familiarize themselves with the concept of thinking forward or starting their businesses. Seeing how many of them felt stuck in their current situations was eye-opening and heartbreaking.
One particularly memorable moment was when a young woman came up to me in tears, sharing her struggles with domestic violence. She asked for help and guidance, and I gave her words of encouragement, emphasizing the importance of believing in herself and never giving up. It was a powerful reminder of the impact of our work and the importance of supporting and empowering women.
The event was a two-day affair, with the first day focused on personal stories and empowerment and the second day dedicated to Q&A sessions with the audience. The closing event included men and families and was attended by over 400 people. It was a celebration, with everyone eager to take pictures and connect with us.
After the event, we spent three days exploring Machu Picchu. The journey to this ancient site was both awe-inspiring and exciting. We learned about the Inca civilization, their ingenious communication methods, and how they hid their city from the Spaniards, preserving its beauty and history. The landscape was breathtaking, surrounded by towering peaks and shrouded in mist.
Cusco, the nearby town, was equally enchanting. Its romantic streets, historic churches, and vibrant food scene left a lasting impression. The highlight of my culinary experiences was the ceviche in Lima, with its fresh seafood and bold flavors.
